Plattsburgh used two big innings in each game of a doubleheader to defeat the Oswego State softball team 10-0 in six innings and 12-0 in five innings on Saturday in Oswego. Prior to the game, the Lakers recognized the contributions of seniors
Erin Tracy (Pulaski, N.Y.) and
Laura Agle (Eden, N.Y.) during their careers. Oswego State closed out the season with an overall record of 5-29 and a league record of 2-16. The Cardinals moved to 21-14 overall and conference mark of 10-7.
Plattsburgh held a slim 2-0 lead when Nicole Diemer and Erin Jamieson led off the fifth with a walk and a double respectively. Both base runners came around to score to extend the Cardinal lead to 4-0. The Lakers stayed within striking distance until the sixth inning when a combination of five Plattsburgh hits and four Oswego State errors resulted in six runs. The Lakers went down in order in the sixth to suffer the 10-0 loss.
Shannon Baker (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) and Marie Steding (Fr., Central Square, N.Y.) recorded both Oswego State hits off of Cardinal pitcher Ashley Marshall, who earned the win. Sarah Thayer (Fr., Winthrop, N.Y) posted the loss allowing four earned runs on ten hits.
In the nightcap, Plattsburgh put together an eight-run second inning to put Oswego State in an early hole. Jamieson produced the big hit of the frame when she ripped a triple with the bases loaded. The Cardinals added runs in the third, fourth, and fifth as Plattsburgh won 12-0 in five innings.
The Lakers offense recorded eight hits, but five of them came off the bats of Sue Schoff (Fr., Little Falls, N.Y.) and Nicole Ouellette (Fr., Castleton, N.Y.). Marie Steding worked four innings giving up four earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four and walking three. Heather Loughran earned the shutout win for the Cardinals.
