Volleyball Picks Up Wins Against Utica and SUNY Canton

The Oswego State volleyball team picked up two wins on Saturday after defeating Utica, 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-15), and SUNY Canton, 3-2 (16-25, 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 15-5) in Canton. Stephanie Bailey (Fr., Scotia, N.Y.) provided a strong presence at the net in the middle for the Lakers as she registered 19 combined kills and was a part of 12 total blocks. The wins bumped Oswego State's overall record to 5-13 heading into the Lakers' home tournament on Friday and Saturday.

In the day's first match, Bailey put away nine kills and contributed to four blocks followed by Meaghan Puff (So., Newfane, N.Y.), who turned in an all-around performance with eight digs, five kills, and three blocks. Samantha Manicone (Fr., Copiague, N.Y.) led the defensive effort with 11 digs and three service aces, while Kara Michelsen (Fr., Lake View, N.Y.) tallied 19 assists and six digs.

Against SUNY Canton, Michelsen posted a double-double with 25 assists and 11 digs. Puff finished the match with 21 digs, eight blocks, and five kills, as Bailey also contributed 10 kills and eight blocks. Kim Grice (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) fell just short of a double-double as well after posting 11 digs and seven kills, while Manicone added another 18 digs.
