The Oswego State softball team picked up two more wins on Monday when it defeated Macalester and Fitchburg State by scores of 7-6 and 4-0, respectively, to have a three-game winning streak heading into the final day of its Spring Break trip in Clermont, Florida.
Jess Palmitesso earned both wins on the mound for the Lakers, who improved to 4-3 overall. Oswego State will face Washington University-St. Louis and Westfield State Tuesday morning before heading back to Oswego.
The Lakers avenged a 7-0 loss to Macalester on Sunday by defeating the Scots, 7-6. Oswego State set the tone immediately in the first inning as Dee Apps and
Paige Anderson delivered key singles to fuel a two-run, two-out rally in the first inning. Both players went on to finish the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Macalester held a 5-3 lead after three innings, though, before the Lakers started to chip away at the lead and score the evenutal game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Palmitesso held off the Scots in the top of the seventh to pick up her first collegiate win, but the contest was a joint effort by the Oswego State pitching staff as
Morgan Lavner and
Sarah Thayer saw action.
Palmitesso was the story in the day's second game as she tossed an eight-strikeout, one-hit, complete game shutout to help the Lakers blank Fitchburg State, 4-0. Oswego State jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning and quickly followed up with three more runs in the second, which was more than enough run support for Palmitesso.
Sue Schoff paced the Lakers offensively going 2-3, while
Sammie Schroeter was 1-3 and drove in two runs. Apps and Anderson also went 1-for-3.
