Box Score
For the third time this season, the Oswego State men's soccer team (5-1) drilled home the game-winning goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation. On Saturday, it was
Mike Naab (So., Ontario, N.Y.) scoring with 7:48 to play for a 1-0 win over RIT (2-3-1) at Laker Field in Oswego.
The physical, up-and-down contest included 24 fouls, but just five shots on goal.
Laker keeper
P.J. Goodwin (Jr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) made the only save of the first half when he caught a 25-yard free kick with three minutes left on the clock.
Lucas Pettit (Sr., Scipio Center, N.Y.) had the Laker's first shot on goal 10 minutes into the second half, but the line drive attempt was right at the RIT keeper.
Goodwin's final save of the shutout came with 13:30 left on the clock when he stopped a short line drive shot of his own.
The Laker offense then came up clutch yet again. A cross from John McLoughlin (So. Goshen, N.Y.) set up an open shot for Naab. The RIT keeper dove to his right and tipped the ball, but it was not enough to keep the ball from finding the back of the net for the game-winner.
Oswego State's
Andrew McBride (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) forced the RIT keeper to dive again minutes later, but this time Sean Conway was able to stop the shot and keep the 1-0 score in tact.
The Tigers made a late push with back-to-back corner kicks in the closing minutes, but the Laker defense held firm for the win.
The 1-0 victory marked the first win for the Lakers over RIT in the last four seasons.
The Lakers now turn their attention to SUNYAC play when they host Oneonta (3-2-1) at 4 p.m. on Friday and New Paltz on Saturday at 1 p.m.
