After Oswego State (5-3-0) applied some early offensive pressure, the New Paltz (5-4-1) men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in a five-minute stretch midway through the first half for a 2-0 win at Laker Field on Saturday.

The Lakers controlled the ball much of the time in the opening 10 minutes, but they struggled to get looks at the goal.

The momentum shifted quickly when a failed clear by the Oswego State defense set up New Paltz's Shanshe Khosroshvili in the 15th minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Hawks added another goal five minutes later when Laker goalkeeper P.J. Goodwin (Jr., Baldwinsville pushed a shot high and into the crossbar, but Brian Spina was there to head the ball in for the 2-0 lead.

A minute later Max Guliani (New York, N.Y.) had the lone shot on goal of the half for the Lakers in the first half, but the New Paltz keeper pulled the ball in.

Oswego State continued to keep pressure on during the second half with numerous throw-ins near the attack zone, but the Hawk defense kept the Lakers from getting off decent shots.

Goodwin made another sliding save for the Lakers with 21 minutes left to finish the game with two stops, but the offense was unable to get the home team back in the game.

The contest ended a five-game homestand for the Lakers and dropped them to 0-2-0 in SUNYAC play, while the Hawks improved to 1-0-1.

Oswego State hits the road next weekend with a trip to Potsdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday for two more SUNYAC games.
