Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team lost another heartbreaking overtime contest 3-2 to SUNY New Paltz on Friday evening at Laker Soccer Field. With the loss in its first SUNYAC game of the season, the Lakers are now 0-6-1 overall while New Paltz improves to 2-4-2.
Oswego got out to a quick start when
Patrick Sprague rebounded a shot by Brendan Biesner and put it past the keeper just 42 seconds into the first half. The Hawks fought back with a goal in the 14th minute on a free kick off a Laker foul.
It remained knotted at 1-1 though to halftime before New Paltz broke the tie in the 55th minute. Oswego would not flinch, however, scoring just over 18 minutes later on a goal that would eventually send the game into extra time.
With 73:33 on the clock,
Eddie Silvestro sent in a ball from midfield to the right post. On the receiving end of the pass was
Mike Naab, who gathered the ball, spun his defender and rifled a ball into the back of the net.
The Lakers could not hold on in overtime as the Hawks scored a goal at 94:39 to take the victory.
Jon Runge took the loss in goal for Oswego despite stopping eight New Paltz shots.
Oswego will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it takes on another SUNYAC foe in Oneonta. The game will also be a part of the Lakers Alumni Weekend.
