Fredonia, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team avenged an early season loss with a 5-2 victory at Fredonia on Friday night. With the win, the nationally-ranked Lakers improve to 12-3-2 on the season and 5-2-1 in SUNYAC competition, while the Blue Devils fall to 5-9-3, 2-4-2.
Matt Galati's goal at 5:20 in the second period put the Lakers up 2-0, giving the team as much as it would need on the night.
Denton King started the scoring for No. 10/11 Oswego, netting the first period's only goal at 6:57.
Freshman
Kenny Neil gave the Lakers a 3-0 lead at 14:42 of the second period before
Nick Rivait and
Chris Carr added the squad's final two goals in the third.
Rivait led the team with three points while King and
Alex Botten each collected two points. Also finishing with an assist on the night were
Morgan Bonner,
Bobby Gertsakis,
Josh Timpano and
Mike Montagna.
Oswego started
Matt Zawadzki in goal and the freshman stopped 25 shots on the night and surrendering just one score.
The Lakers continue a weekend road trip at 7 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bengals of Buffalo State in a conference matchup.
