Oswego Drops Game One, Recovers for Game Two Win at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team split with the Hamilton College Continentals in a nonconference doubleheader on the road Monday afternoon. With the win and loss, the Lakers are now 9-16 while Continentals move to 9-19.

GAME ONE – Hamilton 4, Oswego 2:

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Deanna Apps walked with the bases juiced to drive in Alexandra McKay, cutting the deficit to one run. Later in the inning, Ashley Lyman send a sacrifice fly into center field to score Katie Bredin from third, knotting the game at 2-2.

A Hamilton two-run double in the fifth inning would put the game out of reach for the Lakers.

Bredin and McKay led the way with two hits apiece while Apps, Dana Taglioni, Melissa Mulvaney, Alexis Nasca and Jacquie Porreca each had one.

On the mound, Nasca took the loss in five innings of work, surrendering seven hits and four runs. Alexandria Connelly threw a perfect inning in relief, striking out one of the three batters she faced.

GAME TWO – Oswego 3, Hamilton 1:

The Lakers got behind 1-0 in the first inning but that was all it would allow for the entire seven innings. Sammie Schroeter started off the Oswego scoring by beating out a bunt for an infield single in the second inning, sending Mulvaney home to even the game at 1-1. Justine Ambrowski then singled to left center to push the eventual game-winner across the plate in the form of McKay.

Apps added an insurance run in the fifth inning to take some pressure off the pitching staff, singling to drive in Bredin.

Katie Heselden earned the win on the rubber, giving up just the one run on five hits. Connelly recorded her second save of the season with two innings of one-hit pitching.

Oswego will play a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when SUNYIT comes to campus for another nonconference tilt.
