OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team swept visiting Potsdam in a doubleheader on Easter Sunday at the Laker Softball Field. With the two wins, the Lakers improve to 8-15 overall and 5-11 in SUNYAC play while Potsdam falls to 4-18, 3-7.
GAME ONE – Oswego 14, Potsdam 0: In a mercy-rule shortened five-inning contest,
Alexandria Connelly threw a two-hit shutout. Connelly struck out four of the 20 batters she faced and also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double and a RBI.
Oswego was led by
Ashley Lyman at the dish, finishing with three hits, including a home run, for a five-RBI game. The freshman also scored twice.
Also finishing with three hits was
Melissa Mulvaney, driving in a run and scoring another.
Sammie Schroeter,
Deanna Apps and
Katie Bredin all collected two hits in the contest. Schroeter drove in two teammates while Apps and Bredin each had one RBI.
Alexis Nasca and
Dana Taglioni rounded out the Lakers finishing with hits, both collecting a single. Nasca had two RBI while Taglioni scored once.
GAME TWO – Oswego 8, Potsdam 1: Connelly earned her second win of the day, pitching all but one out for Oswego. She went 6.2 innings, scattering eight hits while not allowing a run and striking out two.
Katie Heselden got the Lakers the final out, surrendering one hit and a run which was unearned.
Jacquie Porreca was perfect at-bat, going 4-for-4 with a run scored in game two. Porreca, Lyman and Taglioni all had extra-base hits in the form of a double apiece.
Oswego's most important extra-base hits came from
Alexandra McKay. McKay crushed a two-run homer in both the third and fourth innings for four RBI. Schroeter was the runner on base each time, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Taglioni also had a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Apps also had a hit and RBI in the nightcap.
Oswego is back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Monday when it travels to Hamilton College for a nonconference doubleheader.
