BOX SCOREOSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team started its 2014 season on a good note, edging Cazenovia 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field in the opening round of the Oswego State Classic.
Harrison Rieber would deliver early, scoring the Lakers first goal just over 11 minutes into the contest, with the assist coming from
Mitch Brickman.
The Wildcats were able to knot the match at 1-1 midway through the first period as Conor Cahalan scored on a cross from Corey McNair. After the 17 remaining minutes went scoreless in the opening period, the two squads headed for the locker room in a stalemate.
Oswego capitalized in the second half as
Brody Magro made his only shot the game-winner. Senior
Greg Rabideau found Magro cutting and the sophomore juked the goalie for the go-ahead goal at the 70:47 mark.
Rieber and
Connor Lunduski lead Oswego State in shots with four and five, respectively.
The Laker defense was solid all game as Cazenovia managed only five shots throughout the contest, with goalie
Todd Lawson stopping one shot-on-goal in the second stanza.
Oswego will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday as it faces Union College in the championship game. The Dutchmen advanced 5-0 past Hilbert College in the nightcap. Hilbert and Cazenovia will square off in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
