OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team's comeback effort against Hamilton College fell just short as the Lakers lost 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field. With the loss, the Lakers are now 3-4 on the year while the Continentals improve to 4-2.
After giving up three goals in the opening period, Oswego dominated play in the second half, closing the gap to 3-2 in a matter of a three-minute span. At 65:19,
Nicole Perniciaro fed
Tia Segretto into the left side of the box, where the senior fired a shot near post to beat the goalie and put Oswego on the board.
Just 2:54 later, Segretto took to the role of helper, working a quick give-and-go with
Sarah Grupp, who squeaked a goal under the Hamilton keeper to close the Hamilton advantage to one goal.
Oswego was trailing in shots-on-goal 7-4 at the half but was able to even it at 9-9 midway through the second period. The Continentals were able to get two more of those opportunities in the final minutes, with the second chance going for an insurance goal by Victoria Freeman to put the contest out of the Lakers' reach.
Hamilton's first goal came at 20:19 as Freeman scored off a pass through the box from Sara Lewis. Six minutes later, Halle Becker gave Hamilton a 2-0 edge off a Hannah Withiam assist. The Continentals made it a 3-0 game in the waning minutes of the opening stanza as Katie Kreider scored the eventual game-winner from Sophie Mayeux.
In net,
Alyssa Glasshagel worked the full 90 minutes for the Lakers, collecting seven saves in the outing.
Oswego will open conference action at 4 p.m. on Friday as it welcomes Oneonta to campus for a SUNYAC contest.
