OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team moved back above .500 with a 7-2 win over SUNY Canton at South Athletic Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers are now 6-5 on the year while the Kangaroos fall to 1-9.
After dropping behind 1-0 after the first eight minutes of play,
Luke Krizman scored the first of his three goals to knot the game up with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter. That score would hold until
Kyle Wistner tallied his second goal of the year at 13:44 of the second quarter, which gave Oswego a 2-1 advantage heading to halftime.
The only score of the third period was from
Troy Crevier, notching his seventh of the year on what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 10:20. Oswego would go on to outscore Canton 4-1 in the final 15 minutes, giving the squad the 7-2 victory.
Krizman was the only player to record a multiple-point game with his three goals, while Crevier, Wistner,
Nick Giampaolo and
Matt Palmer also scored. Also finishing with a point in the game were
Cody Hoose and
Zach Anderson, assisting on a goal apiece.
Wyatt Russo earned the win in net for the Lakers, stopping six shots.
Troy Calkin played the game's final 3:25 after a penalty on Russo, making one save in the appearance.
On defense,
John Novitsky led all players with three caused turnovers while Wistner, Russo and Palmer tied with a team-best four ground balls.
Oswego outshot Canton 48-20 on the day and only had one miscue on the clear (18-for-19).
The Lakers will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they host Plattsburgh in a SUNYAC matchup.
