OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team played an even first half with nationally-ranked St. Lawrence University before succumbing 3-0 to the Saints on Tuesday afternoon at the opening of the Laker Turf Stadium.
Prior to the contest, Oswego State President, Deborah F. Stanley, together with Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Jerald Woolfolk, Director of Athletics, Sue Viscomi and 1968 Oswego graduate and men's soccer alumnus Dan Scaia, took part in a ceremony, officially opening the $2.37 million state-of-the-art facility.
Once the tilt began, the Lakers kept the No. 13 Saints off the board for the first 45 minutes, as Oswego keeper
Todd Lawson made five stops. Lawson would go on to make three more saves in the second stanza, finishing the day with eight.
Connor Lunduski took two of the Oswego shots-on-goal, threatening the St. Lawrence shutout but to no avail. Junior
Lucas Williamson fired the other Laker shot on target, but was unable to find the back of the net.
St. Lawrence was able to notch goals in the 50st, 56th and 89th minutes, two by Ryan Grant while the first came from Tapshak Augustine.
The Lakers will be back in action at 3 p.m. on Friday when they host SUNY Canton in the first game of the Oswego State Men's Soccer Tournament. Houghton College and William Paterson University will play the nightcap at 5 p.m. Saturday's championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. with the consolation contest preceding it with a 1 p.m. start.
