BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team handed D'Youville College its first loss of the season in a 3-0 road win on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 4-2 on the year while the Spartans drop to 2-1.
Freshman
Ariah Rosos gave Oswego all it would need in the 29th minute of play. Rosos collected a rebound and rocketed a shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. The Lakers held that 1-0 lead into the intermission before breaking the game open in the second half.
Just 1:33 into the period,
Bailey Waterbury headed a ball over a defender to find teammate
Nicole Perniciaro. Perniciaro then beat the keeper one-on-one to put Oswego up 2-0.
Rosos would not be the only freshman to earn her first collegiate point on the night, as classmate
Kelsi Fredericks fed sophomore
Emma Geyer for a goal from the top of the box in the 82nd minute. Geyer's tally also kept her on pace in the race to be the Lakers' leading scorer, as her and Perniciaro finished Tuesday's game with team-leading three goals apiece on the young season.
Goalie
Melissa Siegfried recorded her second-career shutout in the contest, stopping seven Spartan shots on the night. That total matched a career-high for saves in a game which she set in this campaign's opening game against St. Lawrence University.
Oswego will hit the pitch next when it opens its conference schedule with a 3 p.m. tilt on Friday at Oneonta.
