BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Oswego State men's soccer team defeated the host Brockport Golden Eagles, 1-0, on Friday afternoon. Oswego earned its first conference victory of the season (1-6) and improves to 4-10 overall. The Golden Eagles fall to 2-8-2 and 1-4-1 in the SUNYAC.
An outstanding performance in goal by Evan Bogucki was the difference maker in this contest. Brockport attacked the goal relentlessly, taking 27 shots in the contest. Despite the aggression, the Golden Eagles were met by an immovable force in Bogucki, who stopped all 13 shots-on-goal.
The sophomore goalkeeper set both his career-high and season-high figure (13) for turnaways. Earlier this season, Bogucki made six saves three separate times--against Franklin & Marshall College, Messiah College and Plattsburgh--for his previous high mark.
Oswego's lone goal came off the foot of Zack Koons in the 36th minute of the game. The eventual game-winning goal was crossed into the 18-yard box off a corner kick taken by Connor Lunduski. After it was punched out by the Brockport goalie, Koons found the ball and powered it back in. It was the Rochester, N.Y. native's fourth goal of the season.
One other corner kick was taken by the Lakers in the game. The team also earned two more shots-on-goal, but both were saved.
Men's soccer looks to ride the momentum of the SUNYAC win into Saturday's conference contest at Geneseo. Action will begin at 1 p.m.
