BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's swimming and diving team won its second-straight meet 141-102 at Brockport on Saturday afternoon. Oswego improves to 3-3 on the year while the Golden Eagles drop to 2-2.
Daniel Rodriguez picked up two victories on the day and had a runner-up finish as well. In the day's fourth event – the 1000-yard freestyle – Rodriguez clocked a 10:02.86, over a minute faster than the next closest competitor. Two events later, the freshman grabbed second place in the 200-yard free, behind only teammate
Nicholas Weber. Weber posted a time of 1:49.24 while Rodriguez came in 3.82 later (1:53.06). Rodriguez then returned to the winner's circle in the 500-yard version of the freestyle, claiming first by more than eight seconds (4:53.18).
Also picking up a pair of individual event victories on Saturday was Laker
Jay Choi. The sophomore started with a win in the 100-yard butterfly (53.72) before the breaststroke at the same distance (1:00.45) 10 events later.
Alex Davie got in on the 'twice is nice' theory on Saturday, winning both the 100- and 50-yard freestyle events. In the former event, Davie won in a time of 50.49 while the latter event was earned in 58.34.
The other Laker individual winner was
Devon Foster, who took the 100-yard backstroke by 21-tenths-of-a-second over Brockport's Matthew O'Donnell.
Oswego's first win of the day came in the 200-yard medley as Foster, Choi, Weber and
Jacob Mullett started the meet with 11 points (1:41.97).
The Lakers will return to competition on Friday, Dec. 2 as they take part in the two-day Hamilton College Invitational in Clinton, N.Y. That invite will be Oswego's final competition of the fall semester.
