CLINTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team defeated the Colby College Mules—67-63—on Saturday evening in their first game of the Hamilton College Tournament. Oswego improves to 4-1 on the year, while the Mules drop their first contest of the season (3-1).
Oswego started off the contest with more energy and jumped out to a lead almost right away. With 1:40 remaining in the first half, an
Ian Schupp and-one play completed a 7-0 run, which gave the Lakers a 29-23 advantage. The Lakers would extend the lead to eight at halftime.
Schupp finished the contest with 12 points, which was a tie for second on the team with
Jamir Ferebee. Ferebee dished out four assists along with his dozen points on 5-of-8 (63%) shooting.
After
Keith Tyson nailed a layup to give Oswego the 10-point lead early in the second half, Colby College bounced back and stunted the Lakers momentum. The Mules would go on a 17-6 run to take the lead at 41-40. It would not hold and Oswego fought back to retake the lead and earn the victory.
Brian Sortino jumpstarted Oswego's run to retake the lead with a 3-pointer and a couple of free throws earning the Lakers a seven point lead (56-49). The senior finished with a team-high 21 and also added six assists.
Elsewhere,
Mykelle Krecko earned his third-straight double-double with 11 points on 5-of-7 (71%) shooting. He also cleared 11 rebounds.
Men's basketball returns to action on Sunday at 3 p.m. to play host Hamilton College in the tournament championship game. Colby College will play Clarkson University in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
