OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team shut out SUNY Canton 4-0 at the Marano Campus Center Arena Saturday night. With the win, the Lakers improve 12-9-2 on the season, while Canton drops to 5-17-3.
Kenny Neil got the ball rolling for the Lakers, scoring 8:36 into the first stanza. He played a little back-and-forth passing game with senior
Brandon Adams that ended with a pass across the goal mouth for the easy tap in.
The rest of Oswego's goals came courtesy of the special teams play, beginning with
Sean Federow in the first. As Canton had one sitting in the box,
Andrew Barton started the man-up situation by clearing the slot with some nifty stick work. He then dumped it off to
Chris Raguseo at the blue line, who found his d-partner, Federow, on the opposite side of the rink. The pass was placed perfectly and, with the slot cleared, Federow was able to rocket a shot past the Kangaroo netminder, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead.
Matt Galati got the next Laker tally, earning the second power-play goal of the night. The junior one-timed a pass from
Shawn Hulshof in the slot, beating the keeper underneath the arm 9:16 into the third. As time wound down,
Kenny Neil bookended the game, scoring the Lakers final goal short-handed.
Matt Zawadzki earned his fourth shutout of the season, stopping all 19 of the Kangaroo shots.
At the face off dot, the Lakers won 32 of 54 puck drops, including 14 wins from Barton.
Men's ice hockey will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as the team travels west to Buffalo State to take on the Bengals.
