ALFRED, N.Y. - The Oswego State wrestling team defeated Alfred State 36-9 on the road Wednesday evening. The win improves the team's dual meet record to 4-10 on the year while the Pioneers move to 2-7.
James Ronca got the scoring going for Oswego, winning the 133-pound weight class by technical fall (17-1). He was followed by
Jonathan Ptacek who was victorious at 141 pounds, defeating Alfred State's Austin Parker 14-3.
Oswego won the next two matches by fall, increasing the Laker lead to 21-3 with five wrestlers to go.
Steve Culbert collected six points, pinning his counterpart in 3:49 at 149 pounds.
Tyler Silverthorn bettered that at the 157-pound weight class, touching the Pioneer's Jacob Willis' shoulders to the mat in 2:45. Oswego ended the bout with a fall as well, as
Kade Andrews pinned his opponent in 5:57.
The remaining Laker points were secured by
Troy Seymour (174) who posted 6-0 win over his opponent and
Daniel Smith (197) who won by forfeit.
Wrestling will hit the mats again at 12 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts the nationally-ranked Cortland Red Dragons in Lee Hall.
