How it Happened
Leading the way for the Lakers was
Jayden Kiell at 174 pounds, who put together a strong 3-1 showing to earn 7.5 team points. Kiell opened his day with a commanding 12-4 major decision over Anthony Salvini (Penn State Behrend), then followed with a 14-9 decision against Dennis Slovick (Pitt-Bradford) to punch his ticket to the quarterfinals. After dropping into the consolation bracket, Kiell responded in impressive fashion, earning a 16-4 major decision over Souleymane Diarra (Wilkes) to secure his spot on the podium.
At 184 pounds,
Avery Canzano matched Kiell with a 3-1 record pacing the team with 10.5 points. Canzano opened the tournament with a dominant 17-6 major decision over Gavin Gomes (Pennsylvania College of Technology) before pinning William Chrysler (New Jersey City University) in 3:47 in the second round. After a setback in the quarterfinals, Canzano rebounded emphatically in the consolation bracket, securing a fall in just 1:21 over Koran Hinton (Kean) to finish strong.
Ben Burkhardt delivered a pair of early wins at 133 pounds, contributing 6.0 team points. He advanced with a medical forfeit over Jackson Rush (RIT) and followed with a first-period fall (2:04) against Kolton Brown (Elmira). Though his run was halted in the championship quarterfinals, Burkhardt's aggressive start gave Oswego early momentum.
At 157 pounds,
Steven Ventricelli showcased resilience with a sudden victory triumph over Josh Warland (RIT), grinding out an 8-5 win in extra time to advance to the quarterfinals.
Juan Roque (125) and
Michael Santore (141) each picked up consolation-round victories, with Roque earning an 18-7 major decision over Billy Colloca (Oneonta State) and Santore advancing via medical forfeit against Jaden Friel (Brockport).
