Lakers Score 32 Runs; E. Hamilton Homers Twice

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Oswego State baseball team defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils 20-3 and St. Michael's College (Vermont) 12-3 in two separate nine-inning games on Monday at Lake Myrtle Park. With the wins the Lakers improved to 10-3 overall and with the win over Fredonia they rise to 1-2 in the conference.

Oswego 20, Fredonia 3

The Lakers got their runs in large part from an eight-run fourth inning, which helped propel them forward in this one. After Myles Kutscher made a quick out to the pitcher, the rally got started. Eli Holton earned a walk and then Mike Dellicarri ripped one down the left-field line. He made it all the way to third as the ball took a few bounces around in the corner.

Zach Kollar kept it going with an RBI-double to right field. The top of the order then strung together four-straight singles to drive in three runs. After Oswego batted around Kutscher came back for revenge and smacked a three-run homer over the left-field fence to round up the scoring.

The Lakers tallied five runs in both the seventh and eighth innings as they kept their collective foot on the gas. Jordan Giller smacked a double, for the big hit in the seventh, which found the gap to clear the previously loaded bases.

In the latter of the two innings the Lakers started off with two singles from John Barnes and Dellicarri before two walks (Alex Brown and Wes Randall) and a hit by pitch (Zach Whelan) led to two runs. E. Hamilton then singled home Brown and Giller reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Randall and Whelan totalling up the games 20 runs.

Earlier in the first inning, E. Hamilton launched a solo shot to get the scoring going. It was his seventh home run of the year.

Miles Kelly earned his second win of the year as he manned the mound over the course of six innings. He allowed just two earned runs and caught two Blue Devil batters whiffing. Robert Donnelly and Ryan Matthews finished out the action by combining for three innings while not surrendering a hit.

Oswego 12, St. Michael's 3

Both the Lakers and Blue Raiders scored their runs prior to the fifth inning when pitching dominated the rest of the way.

Oswego jumped out in front thanks to a six-run opening frame led by Eric Hamilton who jacked his eighth homer of the season; this one being of the three-run variety. The shot drove in Randall and Donnelly who got on via a triple and walk, respectively. Hamilton is now just three dingers short of tying Oswego's single-season record (11).

Four at-bats and two outs later, Matt Capobianco smacked a ball, which landed just at the base of the left-center field fence allowing him to make it to third. The senior drove in John Barnes who walked before him. Matthew Deblasio, Collin Thompson and Randall each earned a single in the following plate appearances to make the lead 6-0.

In the third inning Oswego found five more runs on the bases and brought them all home, starting with E. Hamilton's sacrifice fly to right field. After a double steal including Donnelly and Randall in which the latter nabbed the plate Giller singled to drive in the aforementioned Donnelly. Barnes wrapped it up with a 2-RBI single.

Bobby Zywicki earned his first career win from the bump in a four-inning outing where he allowed just two earned runners to cross the plate. Four pitchers: Andrew Morano, Matt Zakala, Patrick Gosney and Brandon Schultzkie, came out of the bullpen for Oswego. The relief pitchers allowed four hits and no runs in the final five innings to preserve the win.

The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday for a single game against Farmingdale State College at 3:15 p.m. from Lake Myrtle Park Main.
