Lakers Post a 20-Spot in Win at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team grounded the Hawks of New Paltz by a score of 20-3 on the road Thursday afternoon. Oswego's 20 goals is a season-high and the fifth occasion the squad has scored 15 or more goals in a contest. The Lakers are now 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference action while New Paltz falls to 3-10, 0-5.

On the day, 10 different Lakers scored but, ironically, their leading point-getter did not. Erannan Shattuck paced all players with six points, all coming on assists to her teammates. E. Shattuck's sister Teresa Shattuck was not far behind her elder sibling, recording a five-point outing on four goals and an assist. Tying the freshman's goal output was senior Esther Gabriel, notching four goals of her own. Classmate Emily Lange was next in line with a three-point showing – hers on two tallies and a helper.

The remaining goal scorers were Jayme McCreary (2), Briana Kimble (2), Gemma O'Kane (2), Kendall Appelbaum (1), Lindsey Eggers (1), Kelsey Henderson (1) and Danielle Walker (1). McCreary's goals were her firsts of the year while Walker's tally was her first collegiate point.

Oswego was led by Gabriel on the draw, who collected seven wins, while Lange chipped in three and T. Shattuck added two. Walker, Appelbaum, McCreary and Nicole Granteed each had one control while Granteed led the Lakers with four caused turnovers. In the ground ball department, Oswego had nine players gather multiple loose chances, headed by E. Shattuck's five.

As a team, the Lakers outshot the Hawks 37-7, took eight more free-position shots (9-1), collected 11 more ground balls (33-22), forced nine more turnovers (17-8) and won 10 more draws (16-6). Oswego was also efficient on the clear, successful on 7-of-9 (77.8%) opportunities.

The Lakers will now host SUNY Canton at 4 p.m. on Friday for their final nonconference matchup of the year.
