Road Victory Clinches Home Playoff Game

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team clinched a home playoff game by defeating Potsdam 19-8 at Maxcy Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Lakers reach double-digit win plateau for the second time in the last three season as they now hold a 10-3 mark overall with a 5-2 record in the SUNYAC. Potsdam is now 7-7, 3-4 following the loss.

Oswego allowed Potsdam to score the contest's first goal at 26:56 but evened the game just 21 ticks later. That unassisted Esther Gabriel free-position tally sparked an eight-goal run for the Lakers. Oswego's lead would never get closer than a six-goal margin the rest of the way.

The Lakers were paced by Teresa Shattuck's career-high nine points on two goals and seven assists. Shattuck's seven assists also set a new career-mark for the freshman. Gabriel tied a season-high with six points, hers coming on five goals and one assist. The senior has posted six points on two other occasions: an 18-11 win over Oneonta on April 2 and a 10-9 victory at Fredonia on April 14.

Senior classmates Erannan Shattuck and Emily Lange followed close behind, with five- and four-point performances, respectively. E. Shattuck scored three times and distributed two assists while all of Lange's points found the back of the net. Rounding out the Laker scoring were Kelsey Henderson (2G), Jayme McCreary (1G, 1A), Gemma O'Kane (1G) and Lindsey Eggers (1G).

Angela Ponto made eight saves in net and also tied a career-high with seven ground balls to earn her 10th win of the year. Also collecting multiple ground balls were T. Shattuck and Heather Titanic, each with two. Ponto and Lange showed the way on defense, each forcing a team-high two caused turnovers.

On the draw, Gabriel corralled a game-high six wins and was aided by a trio of wins from both Lange and Eggers.

Oswego will play its final game of the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Brockport for Senior Day. The contest will help determine seeding for next week's SUNYAC Championship, which will be available following the completion of Saturday's league games.
