OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The No. 9/10 Oswego State men's ice hockey team (3-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 SUNYAC) will host a pair of games this weekend against the Buffalo State Bengals and the Fredonia Blue Devils on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Puck drop for both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
After losing to the Bengals in December last season -- for only the second time in program history -- Oswego defeated Buffalo State in back-to-back weekends in February. On Feb. 18, the Lakers won 6-1 on Senior Night. The following weekend -- a SUNYAC Championship semifinal -- Oswego put up another six goals in a 6-2 victory to advance to the SUNYAC Championship title game.
Friday night will be Pride Night in the Marano Campus Center Arena as the Lakers promote the inclusion and participation in sports by LGBTQ athletes. Fans are encouraged to wear rainbow, tie-dye or Pride Alliance apparel, and those that do will be entered into a raffle for an Amazon Echo.
On Saturday, the Lakers will host Fredonia for Alumni Night. The Lakers welcome back all Oswego State alumni and will honor Blueline Club Hall of Fame inductees Gary Fulsaas, Dr. William Mahon and Mike Lukajic. Fulsaas spent nearly three decades as the Lakers' head athletic trainer, Dr. Mahon was the men's ice hockey team's doctor for 25 years and Lukajic was a member of the class of 2004, appearing in 120 games and scoring 144 points.
The Lakers have won eight-consecutive games against the Blue Devils, dating back to 2015.
Also over the weekend, former Laker defender Mike Wills – an accomplished artist – will be painting a scene at each game. Both paintings will be available to the public, with Friday's being put up for auction and Saturday's being raffled by the Blueline Club. Wills appeared in 41 games for Oswego during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns.
Oswego is the lone team to have played only one in-conference game, a matchup against Cortland they won 3-1 on November 3. They are currently ranked ninth in the USCHO.com poll and 10th in the d3hockey.com poll.
Sophomore
Josh Zizek, who leads the team with four goals, is tied for fifth in the nation with three power-play goals.
