PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 contest at nationally-ranked Plattsburgh on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers are now 3-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in league play while the No. 2/2 Cardinals improve to 5-1-0, 4-0-0.
Goalie
Amber Samonek played a solid game in net for Oswego, stopping 37 Plattsburgh shots, just one shy of her career high. As a freshman, Samonek made 38 saves against top-10 Elmira College on Feb. 4, 2017. The outing comes just one day after she stopped 31 attempts in a little more than 40 minutes between the pipes on Saturday. Plattsburgh was unable to score on the sophomore in the third period but was able to record two goals in each of the first two periods.
Oswego and Plattsburgh were close in the faceoff circle, with the Cardinals holding a narrow 30-27 advantage in those situations.
The Lakers penalty-kill unit stood tall for 60 minutes of action, allowing just one goal on three Cardinal extra-skater opportunities. Oswego earned five power-play chances but were unable to find the back of the net.
On offense, Oswego tried 23 shots with
Jean-marie Padden and
Olivia Ellis taking seven apiece.
The Lakers' four-game road trip concludes with a two-game journey to Williamstown, Mass. to face Williams College at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
