In the game against the Blue Devils, Oswego scored the game's first two goals and held off a late Fredonia push to claim the triumph. The Lakers got on the board just 7:26 into the contest when
Chris Waterstreet used a nifty backhand to score off a pass from the left wing from classmate
Stephen Johnson. Freshman
Aaron Huffnagle was also credited with an assist on the play.
Oswego's game-winner came from
Andrew Barton in the middle period at 7:48. After a great odd-man rush save by Fredonia's Eric Bogart, a rebound sprung out to
Mitchell Herlihey. Herlihey was tied up but found a way to tap the puck over to Barton who scored on a virtually open net. Johnson earned an assist on the play, his second of the night, as he took the shot that was initially saved.
Fredonia made the outing a nail-biter in the third with a goal prior to the halfway-point. Laker goaltender
David Jacobson dispelled any thoughts of a comeback with saves down the stretch, preserving the victory in the 19-save effort.
Neither team was able to score on the power-play, as the Oswego penalty-kill unit held Fredonia scoreless on two chances while the Lakers failed on one extra-man opportunity of their own.
The Lakers will wrap the regular season at 7 p.m. on Saturday when they host nationally-ranked Buffalo State. Following the game, Oswego will honor its senior class with an on-ice ceremony.
