AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Oswego State baseball team dropped a 13-11 contest to the Rutgers-Camden University Scarlet Raptors on Monday afternoon. Oswego falls to 8-4 on the year, while Camden improves to 2-3.
Oswego bounced back from a five-run deficit in the contest, before eventually falling short in the ninth inning.
Robert Donnelly began all scoring - in the second - with a single through the left side, which brought
Myles Kutscher home. Following six-straight opposing runs, Donnelly began the Lakers' outburst in the fifth. The junior infielder reached after getting hit, moved to second on a wild pitch, third on a failed pickoff and finally scored on another wild toss.
Kyle Dinges followed Donnelly's score by earning an eight-pitch walk. In the next at-bat,
Alex Brown doubled down the left-field line for his first double of the day. After
Kevin Hylas and
Kyle Simmons reached,
John Barnes went deep driving in Simmons and reclaiming the Laker lead at 7-6.
The Lakers continued to build on the lead in the sixth, led by another moon shot by Barnes. After Brown collected his second gapper and Simmons singled, Barnes sat and mashed the ball to the deepest part of the park, giving Oswego an 11-6 advantage.
Charles Arcuri and
John-Michael Guarino entered the game out of the pen and both pitched effectively, despite the score line. The pair collected six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work, while allowing four runs.
Oswego returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as the Lakers face the University of Massachusetts-Boston in a single contest.
