Cohesive Lakers Keep Blue Devils In Disarray

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Oswego State baseball team wrapped up its annual Spring Break trip to Florida by finishing off the sweep of conference-foe Fredonia on Saturday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park. Oswego's 9-0 win improves its record to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Fredonia falls to 8-6 and remains winless in the SUNYAC (0-3).

Kyle Simmons opened the contest for the Lakers with a base hit to left, collecting the first of Oswego's 12 hits on the afternoon. After Eric Hamilton reached on an error by the third basemen, John Barnes blasted a ball into the right-field gap. The junior rounded the bases in a fury, pulling up for a triple and sending Simmons and Hamilton home.

Rounding up the frame at the plate, Mike Dellicarri continued his hot hitting with an infield single to complete Barnes' time on the base paths. Josh Hoagland, got the start at first and slapped a single through the left side later in the first to drive in Dellicarri and tally a 4-0 lead.

Oswego did not take its foot off the gas, scoring another run in the second, two in the third and two in the seventh to hold the lead from the first pitch to the last one.

Aside from the aforementioned, five other Lakers: Kevin Hylas, Robert Donnelly, Zach Whelan, Eli Holton and Alex Brown added hits. Meanwhile, Dellicarri added a second hit and Rocco Leone slapped his first-career hit.

Behind the plate, Brown caught five innings. He split time with JT Angora, who appeared for four innings behind the dish.

Reston Pettit started the game on the mound, dealing in and out of trouble effectively. He tallied six innings, while allowing six hits and zero earned runs. During the top of the fourth inning with the bags full, Pettit fielded a bunted ball and make a perfect flip to home for the force out, which proved crucial in neutralizing the Fredonia threat.

Andrew Morano, Nick Demarco and Patrick Gosney combined to throw an inning each out of the bull pen. The relievers did not allow a run, keeping the shutout in order.

Oswego returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as it travels to Rochester for a single nonconference contest against the Tigers of RIT.
