Lakers to Close 2018 with Two Games vs. Williams

12/27/2018 1:37:00 PM

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Oswego State men's ice hockey team resumes its 2018-19 campaign with a pair of home games against Williams College this weekend. Oswego and Williams will faceoff at 7 p.m. on Saturday night before competing in a rare 3 p.m. matchup on Sunday.

In the latest polls, the Lakers are ranked No. 6 by D3hockey.com while USCHO has them one-spot back at seventh. Williams is not far behind in either top-15 poll, as it is receiving votes from each entity.

Oswego owns the all-time series 8-6-1 against the Ephs but Williams has the latest victory. The two squads have met only once in the current decade, a Dec. 30, 2016 meeting in the opening round of Norwich University's Holiday Tournament. Trailing 3-2 late, Oswego's Matt Galati scored with 21 seconds remaining off a pass from Stephen Johnson to force overtime. Williams would score at 1:34 of the overtime to upset the Lakers, who were ranked No. 1 in the country at the time.

The two teams share a 1-1-1 record when playing on Oswego's home ice, but neither have met in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Oswego and Williams last played in the Port City in 2003, when they tied 5-5 at Romney Field House.

Tickets are currently available online at tickets.oswego.edu, by calling the box office at 315-312-3073 or by visiting the box office during its hours of operation. Students are encouraged to collect their free ticket for hockey games through the online portal for an easier and quicker process.
