UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team blanked Utica College, 9-0, on Friday afternoon. With the victory, Oswego improves to 4-5 on the season, while Utica falls to 0-6.
Oswego dominated throughout both singles and doubles.
Jon Matros opened singles competition allowing his opponent to win just one game in each set, cruising to two 6-1 victories.
Tyler Buxbaum followed up with a 6-3, 7-5 performance to defeat his Pioneer opponent as well.
At third singles,
Jimmy Terzian was in complete control. Terzian shutout his competitor in both sets to record two 6-0 wins.
Brian Emigholz continued the momentum, blanking his opponent in set one before notching a 6-2 victory in set two.
Winning set one by a break, 7-5,
Dillon McDonald captured fifth singles after a 6-3 win in set two.
Daniel Maslowski rounded out the sweep of singles with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance against his Pioneer opponent.
In doubles competition, the pair of Matros and Emigholz allowed their opponents to nab only two games. Terzian and McDonald recorded an 8-1 win over the Pioneers, as did Buxbaum and Maslowski.
The Lakers look to continue their success against the Pioneers at their home court. Oswego hosts Utica at noon on Sunday at the Romney Tennis Courts.
