OSWEGO, N.Y. - Junior
Aidan Mathews of the wrestling team won the 197-pound tournament title at the 51st Annual New York State Collegiate Championships hosted by SUNY Oswego. As a team, the Lakers finished sixth with 95 points as eight athletes placed among the top-8 in their weight class to earn All-State honors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mathews came into the tournament as the second seed and had a bye in the opening round.
- He won his initial two bouts by fall, the first at 2:58 and the second at 4:16 to advance to the final where he won by a 5-2 decision over the top-seeded wrestler.
- William Hardin II had a nice afternoon going 5-1 on the day with a fall, a technical fall and a major decision among his victories to earn third in the 133-pound weight class.
- Also earning third was Christian Gramuglia at 165 by way of a 5-1 record, including four straight wins to end the tournament.
- The Lakers put two other wrestlers on the podium at 165 as Charlie Grygas took fifth and Caleb Beach earned eighth.
- My'kle Thomas and John DeConno each earned sixth, with Thomas getting the fastest pin (:23) of the day for the Lakers.
- Josh Bressette, in the 157-pound weight class, was the other All-State wrestler for the Lakers as he won a pair of bouts (6-2, 3-1) by decision.

Oswego heads over to Rochester for the 54th RIT Invitational scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on December 7.
