Lakers Outshoot Red Dragons in Loss

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team dropped a 2-0 conference matchup to the Cortland Red Dragons on Wednesday evening. Despite several scoring opportunities in the closing period, Oswego remained scoreless.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Cortland 2, Oswego 0
Location: Marano Campus Center Arena – Oswego, N.Y.
Records: Cortland 12-8-3 (5-8-3 NEWHL)  I  Oswego 9-11-3 (4-8-2 NEWHL)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Bailey Thomas owned the first grade-A shot, as she was gifted an open shooting-lane, ripping it from the blue line. Cortland goalie Chelsea Allain was just able to get her glove in front of the puck at 11:41.
  • Netminder Cassie Shokar held the Red Dragons through a majority of the opening stanza, letting up just one tally, on the power-play with 43.3 seconds remaining in the period. Carly Weigold benefited from a rebound that bounced off Shokar's pad, as she put it in an open bottom left corner.
  • Midway through the second period, Cortland sealed its fate with an insurance tally, as Katie DeVoe benefited from a puck that took an awkward bounce in front of the goal, before she ultimately lifted over Shokar's glove.
  • Jean-marie Padden led the Lakers in shot on-goal opportunities with her greatest coming at 12:41 in the final period, on the Oswego power play. Padden positioned herself in front of Allain, receiving a pass from behind the net that she was quick to fire. Allain denied the goal, just barely corralling it into her glove.
  • Captain Kate Randazzo, Philomena Teggart and Leah Czerwinski all had four shots on-goal.
  • A Surrey, B.C. native, Shokar made 18 saves, spending the entire contest between the pipes for the Lakers.
  • Oswego owned advantages in shots and shots on-goal (44-27, 28-20), while also having an edge in faceoff wins (30-17).
  • The special teams was three for four on the penalty kill.
