OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Intercollegiate Athletics Department has hired
Kevin Joyce as its next head athletic trainer. Joyce will begin the new position on Friday, August 16 and will work closely with assistant athletic trainers
Elise Fitzsimmons and
Dan Collins to support the Lakers' 24 NCAA varsity sports.
Over the past 20 years, Joyce has built an impressive resume in the athletic training field. Most recently, Joyce was a clinical athletic trainer for Professional Physical Therapy for two years in Merrick, N.Y. Over the past year, Joyce also served as the head athletic trainer for Carle Place High School, covering all of the high school's home competitions as well as clinic hours.
The six years prior to his last stint were spent as the assistant athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach at Post University. Post – an NCAA Division II institution in Waterbury, Conn. – sponsors 20 sports where Joyce oversaw primary coverage for sprint football and men's lacrosse. His strength and conditioning title had Joyce working with the sprint football, men's soccer, softball, women's volleyball and women's lacrosse teams as well.
No stranger to the SUNYAC, Joyce held back-to-back positions at New Paltz and Plattsburgh. At New Paltz, Joyce was the head athletic trainer for two years after spending nearly five years as an assistant athletic trainer at Plattsburgh.
Joyce's career started at Elmira College as an assistant athletic trainer in August 2001, where he remained until June 2003.
During his time at Elmira, Joyce earned his Masters of Science degree in education to couple with his Bachelors of Science degree in human movement/sports science from Sacred Heart University. While an undergraduate at Sacred Heart, Joyce was a four-year member of the track and field team and also spent his first two years on the soccer team.
He is a member of several athletic training associations – including the National Athletic Trainer's Association – and holds a myriad of athletic training certifications.
Joyce and his wife Jennifer are the proud parents of Mackenzie and Caitlyn.
