OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's and women's tennis teams split a pair of tight matches against Alfred University at home on Tuesday afternoon. Oswego's women was able to upend the Saxons by a point while the men fell just short by the same margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the women, Oswego claimed two doubles matches before winning half the singles bouts.
- In doubles, Erin Vargo and Eliza Johnson captured a double break point win, 8-4, in the first slot.
- Jenny Lapp and Mattie Wallace combined to take the final doubles match by a break, 8-6.
- Vargo went on to secure the first singles victory in the third spot, winning 7-5, 6-2.
- Lapp nabbed the first set of fifth singles 6-3 before her opponent retired down 4-0 in the second, giving the junior a forfeit triumph.
- Wallace had the deciding match and did so in exciting fashion. The freshman won 7-5 in the first set and persevered through a tiebreak, 7-6, in the second set.
- The men took two matches in both singles and doubles circuit.
- Curtis Farmer and Alex Mintz paired to win second singles by a break (8-6) while Adam Leavitt and Michael Jacoby cruised to an 8-2 third-doubles victory.
- On the singles side, Justin Piotrowski earned the first Laker triumph at third singles by a break in each set (6-4, 6-4).
- The final Laker point for the men came from Brendan Reidlinger at sixth singles, winning easily 6-2, 6-0.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego's men have one more match during its fall campaign, traveling to Rochester, N.Y. to take on Nazareth College at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The women jump right back into SUNYAC play with a 3 p.m. battle on Friday at Brockport.
