OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team took on the #1 ranked Plattsburgh Cardinals tonight, falling in a tight battle, 3-1. The game was tied at one until the 19:17 mark of the second period as senior
Rachael Farmer gave the team a chance with 34 saves, many on grade-A opportunities for the Cardinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Megan Teachout opened the scoring against the Cardinals from the bottom of the right circle with a bullet of a shot right under the bar at 5:20 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Aislinn McAleer.
- The Cardinals tied the game just 32 seconds after the go-ahead goal for Oswego by netting a rebound. The goal was scored by Taylor Whitney and assisted by Nicole Unsworth.
- The Cardinals scored the only goal of the second period at the 19:17 mark on the power-play to put Plattsburgh up 2-1.
- Farmer made multiple acrobatic stops to keep the Lakers in reach of the #1 ranked Cardinals down the stretch.
- Morgan Shines led the team in face-off wins, winning 9-of-12 of her draws.
- The Lakers played gritty as the team with a total of 13 blocked shots, led by Madison Byrne (4), Avery Webster (3) and Emily Gustafson (2).
- The Lakers penalty kill was very strong facing the top power-play in the conference and number three in the nation, only allowing one goal out of seven attempts for the Cardinals.
- It was the second-straight contest where the Lakers have held Plattsburgh below their goals-per-game average of 4.56.

The Lakers will travel to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons in another NEWHL Matchup at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22.
