Lakers Come Back To Tie Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team came back from a two-goal deficit to tie the Cortland Red Dragons for the second time this season. The Lakers fell behind early, going down by two in the second period, then fought back to tie the game early in the third period.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers came out strong, peppering the Cortland goaltender as they took the shots lead, 10-2, through the scoreless first period.
  • Oswego had eight players record a shot in the first stanza.
  • Cortland struck first as the Lakers failed to clear the puck at the 4:54 mark of the second period.
  • The Red Dragons scored their second goal at 13:20 of the second as their top scorer, Grace Schnorr, recorded her seventeenth goal of the season - which has her second in the nation in goals per game.
  • At 16:56 of the second period, Megan Teachout snapped one over the glove, coming from the middle of the left circle, to put the Lakers on the board.
  • Eryn Stewart recorded the assist (12) in Teachout's goal, as she sits inside the top-20 nationally for assists per game.
  • Stewart knotted the game 2:39 into the third period at two off of a rebound of the left pad of Cortland goalie Chelsea Allain.
  • The goal was assisted by Kyleigh Grugin, for her sixth point of the season and Teachout, with her second point of the game.
  • The game was tied after regulation, sending the game to overtime.
  • Oswego called a timeout with 3:16 remaining in the extra period after an icing call.
  • With a last-ditch effort being blocked, the Lakers end in a draw against the Red Dragons for the second time this season.
  • The Lakers had the edge in every category minus faceoffs.  They played a team game with 15 different players recording shots on goal.
  • Shots for Oswego were led by Grugin (5), Teachout (3), Morgan Shines (3), and Emma Morisette (3).
  • Also recording shots for the Lakers were Annika Neufeld-Kreider (2), Sara Cruise (2), and Emily Gustafson (2).
  • Rachael Farmer finished off the game with 21 saves and a save percentage of .913.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will travel to Potsdam to take on the Bears in another NEWHL Matchup at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25 as they look to hold on to the second spot in the NEWHL standings.
