Day 1 Results

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Christian Gramuglia and freshman Charlie Grygas each won a pair of matches on Saturday at the NCAA Mideast Regionals to advance to the semifinal round.  Senior William Hardin II and junior Aidan Mathews remain in the hunt as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Gramuglia won by fall just 41 seconds into his opening match and then scored a 10-5 decision over Ben Bivar of Cortland in the quarterfinals.
• Grygas won an 8-3 decision against Matthew Kline of Brockport and then used three takedowns in the opening period of his second match to win an 8-7 decision over John Garda of TCNJ.
• Hardin won his opening bout by a 7-6 decision before losing a close 5-3 decision in the quarterfinal to Caleb Kreitter of Merchant Marine.
• One of the highest scoring wrestlers this season, Hardin put up a 16-5 major decision in his first consolation bracket matchup to advance.
• At 197, Mathews won his opening bout with a pin 46 seconds in but then lost his quarterfinal matchup.
• In the consolation bracket, Mathews earned a 9-3 decision to stay alive for one of the three bids in his weight class to the National Championships.
• Both Hardin and Mathews will need to win three more matches to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships.
• After an opening bout loss, junior Josh Bressette won a 9-7 sudden victory consolation match before being eliminated by major decision (12-4) in this third match of the day.
• John DeConno (125), Kian Pacheco (141), Isaac Mathews (174), Colby Harblin (184) and Toryan Jones (285) all went 0-2 on the day and were eliminated from contention.
