Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lakers Tame Bengals in Women's Soccer, 3-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team used three first-half goals and a smothering defense to move their SUNYAC record out to 2-1 on the year with a 3-0 victory over Buffalo State.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego 3, Buffalo State 0
  • Location:  Oswego Turf Field, Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego 5-2 (2-1 SUNYAC); Buffalo State 2-8 (0-2 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Freshman Katie Delgrosso created some space and put a goal into the lower left corner to record her first goal of the season just 8:38 into the contest for Oswego.
  • The Lakers dominated early action with six shots and four on-goal in the first 15 minutes of action, including a 3-0 edge in corners.
  • With just over 15 minutes left in the first half, Delgrosso took a throw in down the right side and swung a cross into the box.
  • Senior Liz Myers was there and put a header just high off the crossbar for a great scoring chance.
  • Myers didn't have to wait long for another scoring chance as Oswego intercepted a Buffalo State goal kick and fed the ball to Graisa Madden in the midfield.
  • Madden drove down the right side of the box and swung a pass back through the middle for Myers to redirect into the lower left corner for a 2-0 Laker lead.
  • Oswego escaped a chance from the Bengals when they cut off a pass being cleared away from in front of the goal, but the shot went wide after some defensive pressure with 10 minutes left in the half.
  • Sophomore Sara Marinaro turned momentum back with a shot that went off the Buffalo State goalies hands and in for a 3-0 advantage five minutes before the halftime break.
  • The Lakers controlled possession after the half with a 10-0 edge in shots and a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
  • Oswego's defense held Oswego without a shot-on-goal in the contest.
