OSWEGO, N.Y. – Behind a win in the 174-pound bracket by junior
Charlie Grygas, the Oswego State wrestling team finished in sixth place out of the 19 teams competing at the New York State Collegiate Championships hosted at Cortland. Grygas was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the conclusion of the event for his performace.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grygas, who came into the tournament ranked seventh nationally by D3Wrestle.com at 174, won the opener by fall (:33), then an 11-1 major in the quarterfinals.
- The third seed then upset second-seeded and nationally ranked Dominick Esposito in a 6-3 decision and then won a 6-4 sudden victory over top-seed and also nationally ranked Demitreus Henry of Cortland for the title.
- Senior CJ Walz won his first two bouts by fall (:32) and a 16-0 technical fall.
- In the semifinal, Walz lost a high-scoring 13-9 decision to Trenton Donohue of Jamestown Community College.
- After a 16-1 technical fall victory his first consolation round, he finished in fourth place and earned 14.5 points for the team.
- Fellow senior Logan McGloine added six and a half points to the team total with a trio of wins following an opening round setback.
- McGloine won a 23-7 technical fall over teammate Billy Piatti, advanced by way of a medical forfeit, and then earned a 14-5 major decision before bowing out in his fifth match of the day.
- Freshman Jaden Hall went 2-2 on the day, winning a 7-5 decision to advance to the quarterfinal then falling to third seed Calik Kennedy of RIT.
- In the consolation bracket, Hall pinned Diego Orellana of Oneonta before losing a close 5-3 decision.
- At 197, Anthony Cascen lost to the top seed before earning a 10-4 decision in his second bout.
- The Bronx native then lost a 3-1 decision in this third match versus Max Sims of Merchant Marine.
- Senior Isaac Mathews suffered a pair of tough-luck losses on either side of a 9-0 major decision win.
- Mathews was upset in his opener 3-2 and eliminated by a 2-1 decision.
- Sophomore Thomas Coll won a pair of major decisions (17-8 & 13-5) in going 2-2 on the day.
- At 133, John DeConno started well with a 6-5 decision before 9-5 and 9-4 decisions ended his afternoon.

The wrestling team gets a weekend off for Thanksgiving before heading over to the 55
th Annual RIT Invitational on Dec. 4 with a 9:30 a.m. start time.
