OSWEGO, N.Y. – Behind podium finishes from junior Charlie Grygas and senior CJ Walz, the Oswego State wrestling team finished with 49.5 team points and in ninth place at the Ithaca Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Grygas opened the morning with a pair of decision victories in the quarterfinal (9-2) and semifinal (11-4) at the 174-pound weight class.
• In the final, top seeded Michael Ross of Johnson & Wales was able to edge Grygas out with a 6-1 decision.
• At 141, Walz opened the day with a loss by fall (4:17) to eventual champion Kyle Slendorn of Stevens.
• The senior then scored a pair of falls in his next two bouts (1:22 and 1:52) before losing by fall in the consolation semifinal to earn fifth in the bracket (of 31).
• Sophomore Anthony Cascen lost a major decision to the top seed at 197 to open the day and then fell in his opening round of the consolation bracket.
• Freshman Jaden Hall opened with a 6-2 decision setback to fourth seed Shea Garand of Castleton before losing by fall in his first match of the consolation.
• At 165, senior Isaac Mathews was decisioned in the quarterfinal (9-0) and his opening round of consolation action (7-0).
• Bryce Smith also fell in the 165 quarterfinal to the top seed before losing a close 4-1 decision in the consolation bracket.
• Junior Paul Wehr bowed out of Day 2 action with an injury.
