HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers took an 11-9 lead in the first quarter before an 11-0 Potsdam run, fueled by three straight shots from distance, helped them to a 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Freshman Diamond Pickett scored six points in the second quarter to keep Oswego in striking distance heading into the half at 34-26.
- The Bears pushed the lead to 14 points before a 10-point run from the Lakers, including five from junior Logan Castiglione, helped Oswego close to 47-43 with one quarter to play.
- Caivana hit a pair of threes to open the final frame and put Oswego in the lead and the teams traded buckets and the lead until the final minutes.
- Potsdam was up 63-59 with 1:19 to play when senior Raiven Encarnacion scored on a layup.
- After a pair of missed free throws and a defensive rebound by freshman Shania Iglesias, fellow freshman Elaina Johnson set up Caivana for the go-ahead three.
- The Bears called a timeout, which allowed them to inbound the ball in their offensive half, and got the ball into the wing for a fall-away jumper that connected as time expired.
- Pickett finished with 20 points and seven rebounds while fellow freshman Logan Nyemchek had five rebounds and four blocked shots.
- After allowing three three-pointers in the opening quarter, the Laker defense held the Bears to 1-for-9 from distance over the remainder of the contest.
- Both teams shot just over 37% in the game, but Potsdam held a 47-38 advantage in rebounding.
