Charlie Grygas added a title to his resume at the 174-pound weight class as he helped the Oswego State wrestling team to a sixth-place finish in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championship. Teammates

Colby Harblin all joined Grygas with All-Conference honors by finishing in the top-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grygas started the day with a win by fall (4:55) and an 18-3 technical-fall victory in the quarterfinals.
- The Delanson native then recorded a 15-2 major decision in the semifinals and won a 3-1 decision for the individual title and 19.5 points for the team.
- Two years ago, Grygas won the ECWC title at the 165-pound weight class and now has two titles in as many opportunities.
- Senior Mathews earned fourth in the 165-pound weight class when he advanced to the semifinals with a technical fall (16-0) in his opener and a fall (2:202) in the quarterfinals.
- Mathews was stopped by fall in the semifinal and in the third-place match while winning a 3-1 sudden victory in the consolation semifinal and adding 13 points on the day.
- At 197, sophomore Cascen finished in fourth to earn All-Conference by way of a bye, then a 10-8 decision in the quarterfinals before losing by fall (3:38) in the semifinals.
- Cascen won another decision (8-5) in the consolation semifinal before RIT's Josh Harkless won by fall (2:02) for third place.
- At 141, senior Walz advanced to the semifinals by way of a bye and a fall (0:57) in the quarterfinals.
- The Mohawk native was knocked out by way of a technical fall (17-1) and medical forfeit but scored eight points for the squad.
- Fellow senior McGloine won his opener by fall (2:00) before dropping an 8-4 decision in the quarterfinal round.
- McGloine scored a technical fall (16-1) over teammate Kian Pacheco and a major decision (15-5) over Elijah Hernandez of Pitt-Bradford before bowing out with a medical forfeit in the consolation semifinal and 10.5 points for the team.
- Also in the 197-weight class, Harblin earned All-Conference with a pair of wins (decision 8-2, fall 3:54) while dropping two matches to Harkless and a 9-1 major decision in the fifth-place match.
- Harblin and Cascen added 17 points to the team total in the weight class.
- Seniors Nicolai Celestain and Pacheco, as well as sophomores Thomas Coll and Steven Felice, went 0-2 in the tournament.
- Due to Covid protocols, the Lakers were unable to compete in 125, 133, 184 or 285.

The Oswego State wrestling team returns to the mat next Saturday with a 1 p.m. tri-match against Pitt-Bradford and Brockport at Brockport.
