ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. – Three members of the Oswego State Wrestling team made it through Day 1 of the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships and will take aim at a top-three finish and bid to the NCAA's on Sunday.
THE BASICS

- Location: Bowers Field House, Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pa.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Charlie Grygas won his first two matches with a major decision (13-1) win over Victor Elias (Pitt-Bradford) and a 9-3 decision over Reid Colella (TCNJ) in the quarterfinals.
- A semifinal win against Joe Paul of Johns Hopkins tomorrow would punch Grygas' ticket to the National Championships.
- Senior Isaac Mathews lost a 6-1 decision in his opener and then won a 5-3 decision and an 8-6 sudden-victory to remain in contention at 165.
- Also returning to action tomorrow is freshman Jaden Hall who lost an opening bout before a pair of falls (3:17 & 2:26) and a 6-4 sudden-victory win in a rematch against the opponent from his opening match kept in contention.
- At 184, sophomore Bryce Smith alternated wins by decision (7-4 & 3-0) with a 12-3 major decision setback and a technical fall in his final match of the event.
- Senior Logan McGloine won by fall (3:46) at 149 in his opener before an 11-3 major decision and an 8-7 heartbreaker went against him.
- Anthony Cascen got off to a good start with a 9-7 decision, but was knocked out with 8-2 and 5-1 decisions for the opposition.
- Like Cascen, junior Paul Wehr won his first match (fall, :59) but then suffered a pair of defeats to be eliminated from contention.
- Senior CJ Walz lost his opener, won by fall (4:13) and was knocked out of the tournament in the second consolation round.
- Sophomore Thomas Coll and freshman Matt Laubach dropped a pair of matches in their first Regional experience.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers return to Elizabethtown at 11 a.m. tomorrow for the conclusion of the Regionals.
