OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team held their first home series of the season this past weekend. After taking the first game of the three-game series, the Lakers took the second by an identical score of 2-0, another pitchers battle. The third game turned out to be an offensive battle, Brockport took the third game of the series 13-11. But not before a great effort at a comeback by the Lakers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

The game started much the same as game one of the series for the Lakers, retiring the first six of seven batters.

On the offensive end, the Lakers took the two run lead in the bottom of the first after Paul Tammaro, Ryan Enos and Kyle Lauria all reached base. Tammaro by hit by pitch, Enos by walk and Lauria by fielder's choice.

Ryan Weiss then singled through the left side, bringing home Enos and advancing Lauria to third.

Jacob Levine then singled opposite of Weiss to the right side, scoring Lauria.

In the fourth inning the Golden Eagles threatened after a walk and a single, after a strikeout by Kieran Finnegan the Lakers needed an out, and that's exactly what they got, a line out to third base.

Jacob Levine, perfectly positioned, snagged the line drive out of the air, giving the Lakers two outs.

The Lakers went on to retire the next 6-7 batters.

The game got interesting in the seventh inning when the Golden Eagles had a runner on second with two outs and the tying run at the plate.

Finnegan finished the complete game with a foul out to first base.

Finnegan moved to 5-0 on the season, taking down the Golden Eagles for the second time of the season.

Finnegan only allowed three hits, facing 26 batters and took down five batters by strikeout.
Game 2

The Golden Eagles struck first in the final game of the regular season series between the two teams.

The Lakerts struck back three times over in the bottom of the first inning.

After a leadoff walk by Tammaro , Enos advanced him to third with a HUGE double to left field.

Kyle Lauria flied out to center field, scoring Tammaro on a SAC fly, tying the contest.

Weiss then walked and Enos stole third base in the process.

Levine then took after Lauria, bringing in Enos on a SAC fly to center field.

After a CJ McCarthy walk, Julian Drew made contact singling to center field, pushing the Laker lead to two runs, 3-1.

With the Golden Eagles threatening, in an odd play, Brockport singled through the right side, but struck the baserunner in the back with the line drive, causing the third out of the second inning.

Brockport got one back in the third inning after an error by the Lakers.

Drew started a rally in the fourth inning for the Lakers, Frank Levanti followed suit, doubling to left field, hitting the fence.

Anthony Barone earned an RBI, scoring Drew.

Tammaro flew out to right field, earning the SAC fly bringing in the Lakers fifth run, Levanti scored.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lauria scored on a wild pitch. Bringing the score to 6-2.

The sixth inning was a huge turning point in the contest where Brockport put up five runs, taking the 7-6 lead. This comes after back-to-back solo homeruns by Brockport.

Brockport added two more runs in the seventh inning, pushing their lead to three runs.

The Lakers struggled to get the bats going as they had one hit in seven at bats in the sixth and seventh innings.

Brockport in the top of the 8th inning extended their lead again, scoring four runs in the inning, bringing the contest to 13-6.

Enos brought in Tammaro and Blake VanDreason after a walk by VanDreason and Tammaro being hit by a pitch. This brought the Brockport lead to five runs.

The Lakers found themselves in another jam in the top of the ninth inning. The bases were loaded with one out, Oswego got out of the jam, retiring the next two batters by fly out and ground out.

The Lakers came out for the comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning, Weiss walked, Levine was hit by a pitch.

With two on and two outs B. VanDreason stepped up to the plate and hit a ROCKET to left center field for the three-run homerun. This brought the game within two runs.

Unfortunately the Lakers were unable to pull off the comeback as the Golden Eagles retired the next batter, taking the final game of the series.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers take on Ithaca in a non-conference matchup in Ithaca. This game is scheduled for Wed. April 27th with the first pitch slated for 4:00PM.
