Men's and Women's Tennis Continue Success Against Highlanders

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Tennis team was victorious over the Highlanders of Houghton this afternoon by a score of 7-2. The Men's Tennis program continued their win streak to two matches in a row as they took down the Highlanders by a match score of 6-2

HOW IT HAPPENED

Women's Tennis 

  • Emily Lussier and Cara Campanie fell in first doubles by a score of 8-4.

  • Emily Lyga and Kathryn Salamida won in second doubles 8-1 to tie the contest 1-1. 

  • Alyx Sperling and Rafaela Dimitrakopoulou brought the Lakers ahead with an 8-2 third doubles victory, to pull the Lakers ahead in the match 2-1. 

  • Lyga took first singles 6-3 and 6-1. 

  • Cara Campine fell in second singles 6-1 and 6-3. 

  • Salamida took third singles 6-0 and 6-1.

  • Alyx Sperling took fourth singles 6-2 and 6-2. 

  • Rafa Dimitrakopoulou took fifth singles 6-0 and 6-1. 

  • Lussier won the final match of the day in sixth singles 6-2 in each of the two sets. 

Men's Tennis 

  • Zachary Demott and Trevor Stern fell in first doubles by a score of 8-3. 

  • Austin Davis and Matthew Mannara were defeated in second doubles 8-4, the Lakers fell early to 2-0. 

  • Ethan Bannochie and Anthony Marcano got the green and gold on the board as they took third doubles 8-1 to cut the Highlanders lead in half. 

  • Austin Davis took his first singles match after falling in the first set 6-4, he came back and took the next two sets 6-3 and the tie-breaking set 10-8 respectively. 

  • Marrana took second singles in two sets, both sets ended with a score of 6-3. 

  • Anthony Marcano won third singles to put the Lakers up 4-2 in the match. 

  • Ethan Bannochie was the final match on the court, with a 6-3 loss in the first set, Bannochie came back to win set two 6-4. The final set for Bannochie was a back-and-forth battle and he took the tie-breaker 10-8 for the victory. 

  • Trevor Stern won sixth singles in straight sets with a scores of 6-3 and 6-0. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Women's tennis will take on SUNY Geneseo on September 27th at 3:00PM in Geneseo. Men's Tennis will travel to Pittsford to take on the St. John Fisher Cardinals on September 27th at  4:00PM.
