HOW IT HAPPENED
This game started with fireworks going off for both teams. The first bit of this game was filled with tons of scoring and
efficient scoring at that. Oswego did get out to a 13-4 lead early in the 1st, but Muhlenberg would battle right back. The Mules went on a 11=2 run sponsored by Giovanni Rubino. He had 9 of those 11 points. This game would go dry for the next 2 minutes until Liam Gorman of Muhlenberg got a tough layup at the rim to drop at the dozen mark to go. It was back and forth with the lead staying around 3, give or take, for the Mules midway through the first half. At the 4-minute mark Muhlenberg went on a 9-0 run and didn't look back until the buzzer sounded. The Mules had a 44-38 lead over Oswego at the end of the first half. On the Lakers end, the wealth was spread very evenly all throughout. All scorers were below 10. Freshman
Deacon Judd led the way with 9 to finish out the first 20. For Muhlenberg, Rubino had 14, shooting an outstanding 85% from the field. Charlie Gilkin tacked on 9 as well.
The first half ended with Judd and the second half started the same way. Right off the bat, Judd scored 5 straight and immediately Oswego was back in the game. Now, no one pulled away for a little bit. It all started with
Gary McLane out of West Genesee, NY when he picked Rubino's pocket and went coast-to-coast for the tough deuce. With some free throws and a triple for
Sean Edwards, the Lakers were suddenly up 10. With this much momentum, who would think Oswego would give up this advantage? Give up that lead they did not. Oswego prevailed and won with a score of 79-65.Â
Oswego starts off the season with a victory in Rochester. Sophomore
Steven Bradley led the way with scoring at 16 and Judd followed closely with 15. The story of the game was points off turnovers. The whole game Oswego was scoring off Muhlenberg's mistakes. They had 23 points off turnovers. The Mules only had 7. When you turn defense into offense well and often, a win is bound to occur. Gilkin and Rubino for Muhlenberg kept the offense going as they combined for 31 on the game.
WHATS NEXT
The Lakers look to go 2-0 this weekend as the Rochester tournament continues tomorrow. Opponent and time is TBD.
