OSWEGO, NY – With his three decisive wins this weekend at the Cortland Quad,
Charlie Grygas officially becomes the all-time wins leader in SUNY Oswego men's wrestling history with 121.
Charlie is a senior from Delanson, NY, and over his five years as a Laker has accumulated an exceptional number of accolades. In just his freshman season he recorded the most victories on the season for the Lakers. He was ranked third in the Mideast region and was one of two Lakers to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the 2022-23 season, Charlie was named an NCAA All-American and finished fourth at the NCAA Championships. He was first in the NCAA Mideast Regional, 1
st at the Empire State Championships, and 1
st at the NYS Collegiate Championships. In total, he has been a 2x all-American and 3x NCAA Championship qualifier with an overall record of 90-14 heading into this season.
"Charlie is a very talented wrestler but to go along with that he works extremely hard and is relentless in his pursuit to reach his goals. From the day Charlie stepped foot on campus he has been competing at everything he does. He wants to win at everything, and he just doesn't want to break the total wins record, he wants to set it high enough that it will be a while before it is broken." Head Wrestling Coach
Mike Howard.
Charlie is currently ranked 11
th in NCAA Division III by The Open Mat at 174.
Lakers Wrestling will return home this Wednesday for a match with SUNY Oneonta at 7 PM in Laker Hall.
