Lakers Split in Double Header Against Brockport in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY – The Oswego Lakers baseball team was in action Saturday evening at Onondaga Community College baseball complex against the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles. Dramatically the Lakers walked off game one with back-to-back home runs from Owen Parliament and Tishawn Featherstone. The Lakers had another opportunity to walk it off but the Golden Eagles grabbed the win in game two.

Game 1:
Jacob Sanders was on the mound to start for the Lakers. In the first two innings, the Golden Eagles were able to score five runs on four hits with most of them unearned thanks to some fielding and throwing errors from Oswego.

Sanders settled in the third, and in the bottom of the third Jelani Hamer singled home Trey McGowan for the first run of the game. That was followed by a three-run home run to right field by Tishawn Featherstone cutting the Brockport lead down to just 5-4.

In the top of the fourth, Sanders struck out three straight batters but the Lakers could not add any more runs. Sanders was relieved by Alek Conrad in the fifth with one out, he worked a strike out and ground out to finish the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Jacob Levine gave the Lakers a boost with the team's second three-run homer of the day scoring Winchester and Featherstone to tie the game at 7.

The Lakers took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 6th when Owen Parliament doubled to right field scoring Jelani Hamer and Trey McGowan. After Oswego committed another error in the top of the 7th, the Golden Eagles tied the game up at 9.

In the 8th Brockport scraped across one more run taking a 10-9 lead into the final inning of play. In the bottom of the ninth, Owen Parliament wasted no time tying the game at 10 when he mashed a solo home run to right field. Then, Tishawn Featherstone walked it off with a back-to-back home run to left field giving the Lakers a win 11-10 over Brockport!

Game 2:
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Tishawn Featherstone put the Lakers on the board once again with a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the second. Just a half inning later, the Golden Eagles took over the lead 3-2.

After Blake VanDreason cracked a double to right field, Jelani Hamer roped a double down the left field line that scored Trey McGowan and Blake VanDreason to give the Lakers the lead 4-3. Hamer scored on a double to center from Tishawn Featherstone.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Lakers had bases loaded with nobody out, The Golden Eagles worked two strikeouts then Daniel Winchester worked a walk scoring a run. That was all the Lakers were able to get and they carried a 6-4 lead into the 6th.

In the 7th, Brockport scored three runs on two hits and an error by the Lakers to take a 7-6 lead. However, in the bottom of the inning, Jelani Hamer was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a throwing error from the pitcher on a pick-off move, and then scored off a sac fly from Tishawn Featherstone to tie it up at 7.

Brockport took the lead right back in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run to center field, 9-7. That lead held until the bottom of the ninth when Blake VanDreason singled followed by a ground ball from Jelani Hamer that was thrown away putting runners at second and third for Owen Parliament. Parliament was hit by a pitch which brought up Tishawn Featherstone with bases loaded and one out. The game ended on a double play giving the Golden Eagles the win in game two.

Jake Danyluk started the game for the Lakers, he was relieved by Nick Cody and Richie Paul.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will take on the Golden Eagles again tomorrow at 6:00 PM at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY.
