HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1:
The Lakers were on the board first in game one when Blake VanDreason crushed a home run over the left field fence in bottom of the second. Oswego added two more runs in the bottom of the third when Jelani Hamer singled home Danny Winchester. Hamer later scored on a wild pitch to make the lead 3-0.
Jake Danyluk started on the mound for the Lakers and was relieved by Jacob Sanders.
New Paltz answered with two runs in the top of the fifth and Oswego answered right back. CJ McCarthy doubled and then Jelani Hamer doubled in the bottom of the inning. A SAC fly from Jacob Levine and a single from Owen Parliament brought in two more runs.
The Hawks added five runs in the top of the 6th on seven hits and one error. The Lakers were not able to answer until the bottom of the ninth when a SAC Fly from Jelani Hamer scored the pinch running Brett Myers. But one run wasn't enough, and the Lakers fell in game one, 7-6.
In 3.1 innings of relief, Sanders allowed only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 3.
Game 2:
The second game started very similar to the first, but it was Jelani Hamer this time who hit a home run in the first to give Oswego a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks added a run in the second and fifth taking a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th, the Lakers got things started with a single from Felix De Asa De La Cruz. That was followed by a Joe McLaughlin single and a fielder's choice from Trey McGowan that scored a run. A fielder's choice from Jacob Levine next also scored a run. Finally, a triple from Dylan Rosenberg scored Levine and gave the Lakers a 4-2 lead after 6.
That lead held until the Hawks offense woke up in the top of the ninth. After Larry Citrola came in for relief with the bases loaded, he worked a double-play groundball, but it unfortunately hit the field umpire scoring it a single. New Paltz scored five runs on four hits in the 9th to take the win over the Lakers, 8-5.
