How it Happened
The first set of the match was a tale of service aces, as the Laker defense had a tough time rallying to break the services of the Cortland offense. After Oswego and Cortland traded points, Cortland registered 17 consecutive serves before the Lakers could break their serve, a lead which proved insurmountable as Cortland took the first set, 25-4.
A competitive second set saw the Lakers able to build their offense, as both teams were separated by just four points throughout the set. Oswego benefited from multiple attack errors to keep the score close, as Freshman Alaina Dudzinski registered multiple kills in the set, but Cortland eventually pulled away and emerged victorious, 25-19.
After the second set, Oswego was able to regroup with the most competitive set of the match, leading to multiple tiebreaks. Senior Kalley Vugteveen and Sophomore Priscilla McReynolds played particularly well during this set, each grabbing multiple kills and an ace during set three. After rallying from down 22-19, Oswego forced a tiebreak twice, but ultimately fell via service ace, 27-25.
